# Connect Whop Trends to Codex

Add the Whop Trends MCP server to OpenAI Codex. The Codex CLI, the Codex app, and the IDE extension share one config file, so one setup covers all three.

## Before you start

- Whop Trends Pro: $29/month or $228/year.
- An API key from https://whoptrends.com/dashboard/api-keys. Keys start with wt_.
- Each key allows 1,000 calls per UTC day.

## Setup

### 1. Create an API key

Open https://whoptrends.com/dashboard/api-keys and create a key. Copy it now. The full key shows once.

### 2. Put the key in an environment variable

Codex reads the key from WHOP_TRENDS_API_KEY. Add this line to your shell profile, such as ~/.zshrc, so every new terminal has it.

~/.zshrc:

```bash
export WHOP_TRENDS_API_KEY="wt_your_key_here"
```

### 3. Add the server

Open a new terminal and run this command. It writes the server to ~/.codex/config.toml.

Terminal:

```bash
codex mcp add whop-trends --url https://whoptrends.com/api/mcp --bearer-token-env-var WHOP_TRENDS_API_KEY
```

### 4. Or edit config.toml

Skip this step if you ran the command. To scope the server to one trusted project, use .codex/config.toml in that project.

~/.codex/config.toml:

```toml
[mcp_servers.whop-trends]
url = "https://whoptrends.com/api/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "WHOP_TRENDS_API_KEY"
```

### 5. Add the skills (optional)

Skills tell Codex which Whop Trends tool fits a question. Run this in your repo.

Terminal:

```bash
for s in whop-market-research whop-product-analysis whop-competitive-intel; do
  mkdir -p .agents/skills/$s
  curl -fsSL https://whoptrends.com/api/skills/$s -o .agents/skills/$s/SKILL.md
done
```

## Check the connection

- Run codex mcp list. whop-trends is listed with its URL.
- In a Codex session, type /mcp. whop-trends is in the list of active servers.

## First prompt

```text
Use the whop-trends MCP server. List the 5 Whop products with the highest estimated monthly revenue. Then pull the daily history for the top one and tell me if it is growing.
```

## Notes

- The Codex app and the IDE extension must also see WHOP_TRENDS_API_KEY. If you start them outside a terminal, they may not.
- Codex checks a new server for OAuth sign-in. Whop Trends does not offer sign-in yet, so you may see a login notice. The key still works.
- This guide covers the Codex CLI, the Codex app, and the IDE extension. It does not cover Codex cloud tasks.
